Horizons cover low res

The upcoming winter issue of North Dakota Horizons will be perfect to pick up and enjoy over the Holiday Season. From North Dakota-grown musicians to winter fun across the state and favorite cookie recipes, it is guaranteed to pique the interest of the whole family.

The cover story features North Dakota's own Kat Perkins, a recent contestant on The Voiceand former Medora Musical Burning Hills Singer, who talks about how her North Dakota family and roots have helped influence her path to success.

The Blenders, a North Dakota-based performance group, known for its unique style and twist on many familiar songs, is celebrating its 25th anniversary, a milestone many groups  in the music industry can only hope to reach. Read about the group's start in college and get more information on what the future holds for it.

Opera houses were once popping up in towns across North Dakota, a symbol of "high class" entertainment, but also a place for community gathering. Find out what has become of these historic buildings and how they are being rebuilt and repurposed in many communities. Today, opera performances are still taking place in North Dakota and you can also read about some of the state's modern operas.

Also learn about cozy and unique lodging opportunities across the state and plan your winter vacation right here in North Dakota. And, if you're looking for some fun, outdoor action, learn about the North Dakota Pond Hockey Championship held on the ice of Devils Lake. But, if your more the type to curl up on the couch and read during the winter, the magazine also highlights North Dakota First Lady Betsy Dalrymple's new book on the history of the North Dakota Governor's Mansion.

This fall, we asked our readers to submit their favorite holiday cookie recipes and we have printed some of the top picks along with the touching stories of what makes them family favorites. Maybe you will find a new favorite holiday treat to try!

And with the Holidays quickly approaching, if you are looking for a last-minute gift idea, remember a North Dakota Horizons subscription and calendar can be enjoyed by friends and family year-round. For more information on North Dakota Horizons subscriptions and calendars visit www.ndhorizons.com.

We hope you are excited about the upcoming winter issue! Be on the lookout for it in the mail and on newsstands soon! Happy Winter!
