Every year North Dakota Horizons magazine publishes a calendar showcasing the state’s scenic beauty. It is published in the spring of each preceding year. The calendar is sold throughout the country through a national distributor, in addition to state gift shops and bookstores and online at www.ndhorizons.com. A number of North Dakota businesses also purchase bulk quantities of the calendar with an imprint of their logos to give as gifts to employees, customers or clients. Selection of Photographers: The featured photographers will vary each year. The work of one or more photographer will be chosen, depending on each year’s selection of photographs.
Selection of Photos:
• Scenic, outdoor photos taken in North Dakota are selected for each monthly page and the front cover. • The entire calendar must offer a regional balance of photos that feature the state’s four seasons. • Photos of broken down or abandoned buildings or outdated farm machinery will not be considered. Image Resolution and
Quality Requirements:
• Digital images must be at least 300 dpi at 12” x 12”. • Prints and slides are discouraged, but may be considered in special circumstances.
Image Transfer Methods for Submissions: • Submit images by mail on a CD. Identify each image with your name and photo location (i.e. Smith – North of Medora). Mail CDs to: North Dakota Horizons, P.O. Box 1091, Bismarck, ND 58502
• Upload high-resolution images on Flickr at www.flickr.com/groups/northdakotahorizonscalendarsubmissions/ Tag all photos with ‘HorizonsCalendar2024’. Please add the photo location.
Deadline:
Images must be received by December 31 of the preceding year for consideration. Those not selected may be held and considered for a future year.
Payment:
North Dakota Horizons will pay $200 for each image upon its selection. The terms will be for one-time use, as well as for any promotional or publicity use for calendar marketing. A feature story about the selected photographers will appear in the fall issue of North Dakota Horizons, and a photo and a short biography will be printed on the back cover of the calendar.
